worst day of our lives.

It was a typical thursday night, we had decided to take huey for a walk just around our neighborhood to one of the local parks that we always go to. As we were about to head home, we saw two other dogs with their owners. Now at this time huey wasn't on his leash because we were the only ones there and lets face it, huey is the best at listening and we hate walking him on a lease because we like to let him run around and get all his energy out. But before we headed towards the car and the other people i looked over to jeffrey and told him i was going to go get his harness and put it on him because it was better say than sorry. After huey was on his harness we headed down to the car towards where the other people were at with their dogs. As you all know huey is also the friendliest little pup out there and loves to play and meet new friends. Just before we got all the way down there we saw that the other two dogs were sniffing and each other and getting along just great. We then kept on walking but huey wanted to check out all the action so we walked towards the guy who was still there with his dog to see if it was ok for them to sniff each other and he didnt have a problem with it. So we of course assumed that this dog would be friendly, but they were sniffing each other and huey went in to lick him the other dog bit down and caught hueys tongue and we think that huey or the other dog must of pulled back and that's how his tongue got sliced right in half about 3 inches or so. Now, neither jeffrey or i actually saw that but we heard huey yell out this total i'm gonna kill you bark and so jeff pulled back on his harness to see why he reacted like that because he was also salivating. So jeff went to the front of huey to see why he was doing that and as soon as he touched his mouth all of a sudden all this blood just gushed out. Jeff told me that as soon as he saw huey, huey just went into shock in looked at him with those eyes like help me dad. I was behind jeffrey and huey and went up also to see why huey had reacted that way and when i saw all the blood on his mouth and floor. The tears filled up my eyes and i started crying. I looked up and saw that  jeff just completely lost it. (He told me that it was they way huey had just looked at him all innocent and helpless with his eyes and looked at him knowing that he needed to listen to jeff because he knew he needed him and his help) At that point i knew if i started crying it would only make matters worse. When jeff was taking huey to the car he told me that huey jumped right in and just knew that he had to go with dad and did what he was told. Well jeff was about to take off not knowing where he was going, telling me to deal with the guy when i was like what, how am i suppose to take care of this guy and his dog. So we switched spots and i hurried and took huey to the vet that is luckily right down the road from us and try to explain everything that happened so that they could hurry and start surgery on him. A couple minutes later but what seemed eternity, jeff came running into the vet office with his shoes off like a mad man. Me and huey were still waiting for everything to get ready so they could take him back but jeff came barging in and told them to hurry and take him back which they did right away. We waited and waited, and while we waited jeff called our real estate lady and asked her what we should do. Now in the states you would automatically file a police report if this had happened but i guess here in korea they dont value their pets as much, or at least ours. So when jeff went to the police department he called me as he was leaving and was furious because he told me that they pretty much were just laughing at him as he walking out. Thank goodness our real estate lady happened to call jeff as he was leaving there and told him to go back in because her husband wanted to talk to the cops. Her husbands brother is a lawyer and i guess her husband just chewed them out a big one and after he got done talking to them, they had a whole different demeanor to them and did what jeff asked them to do. Well when jeff got back from all that mess, huey was done from surgery so jeff went to go get the car and when the vet brought huey out to me, ah i almost lost it there too. The type of anesthesia that they used on huey did not go over so well with him at all. He couldnt stand, or hold his head steady, he looked like a brand new puppy cow or a baby deer trying to figure out all its senses. His eyes were super dilated so he couldnt see well so the only thing we could do was to try and hold him and talk to him so that he could smell us and recognize who we were. We calmed him down a little but he was still having a hard time so jeff carried him to the car and sat with him so that he wouldnt freak out on the ride home. As soon as we got home we tried to get him to walk and smell so that he could get familiarized. We pulled out his bed and put it in the living room and he just slumped himself on it and went to sleep. He was definitely much more comfortable being home with all the familiar smells and in his own bed. That night we all slept in the living room together with huey just to make sure that he would be fine through the night. That night we called one of our friends who works at the vet clinic up on post and we told her what had happened. She told us to go in so we got an appointment for him on monday and dogs mouth areas tend to heal quite quickly because of all the fighting agents they have in their mouth already so his tongue seemed to be healing pretty quickly. There was a part of his tongue, the very tip, that was turning white because no blood was get to it and it was just hanging like dead skin. The one vet told us that it would just fall out eventually. She was also concerned with the middle part of his tongue that was sewn together because she said that it looked like it had a possibility of losing some part of his tongue there too. Well i got huey more antibiotics and was about to leave when the other vet walked in and he wanted to look at hueys tongue as well. It was quite the story around there. After he looked at it, he told me that he wanted to go back in and reevaluate his tongue to make sure everything was fine with it. Now at first me and jeff were super sketched out on this idea because of the way huey reacted to the other anesthesia and we said if hes going to go in there and make it prettier then no way, we didnt want huey to go through the same ordeal as he did before. I left the vet feeling unsure of what to do with the whole situtation. Later that night i prayed and prayed asking to know what we should do. The next morning i woke up and didnt feel stressed out or nervous, i knew that huey would be alright and that everything would be fine and he would be taken care of if i decided to go on with the surgery. So i took him back up and they performed the surgery but calling the other vet first to see what kind of anesthesia they used so that they could use a different one this time. When they called me to go and get huey i walked in all nervous not knowing what to expect, but when i saw my little baby come out wagging his tail and all happy like normal i sighed a huge sigh of relief. They cut the little end piece of his tongue that was dead and he round his tongue there to make it look more normal and fixed up his stitches and just made it better. We were so grateful. Now the whole time that huey had his surgerys, he was getting spoiled because he wasn't allowed to eat any hard food. He had to have him on a soft food diet and so we would make him rice and chicken and mix it up well for him with his medicines and he just thought he was in heaven. He was getting better great and getting back to his normal self. We had him on his soft food diet for two weeks and towards the end of it, he was also starting to become more picky with his medicine. We would have to blend it in with his food really well or just shove it down his throat because he would eat everything but pick out his medicine and just leave it there. Tricky little pup!
Well we are glad to say that huey is now doing fantastic and we can say that he is back to himself one hundred percent. He is still that super, lovey dovey, happy go lucky puppy that we all know and love! It was just such a shame that it had to happen to him. Our family and friends kept on saying, its just so sad that it was huey that happened to, he's just so nice and sweet that it should of never happened to him. The following sunday we were in church and we ran into the doctor who performed hueys second surgery. He's a fellow member of our church and is in our ward. Its funny how your prayers are answered! Who would of ever thought.

(the first picture is of huey right after his first surgery and the after one was just taken today showing how much and how good his tongue has healed. i didn't take one of him after his second surgery but it sure does look a whole heck of a lot better! You wouldn't even notice he's had surgery!)

WORST MONSOON SEASON^^^

This past monsoon season has been one of the worst korea has seen for a very long time. It rained so much and just as soon as we thought it was done raining we were wrong. You couldnt go anywhere without having to take an umbrella with you because you never knew when a sudden down pour would be coming. The sun was definitely missed in our household. In the past couple months i can probably count on my fingers how many times the sun came out. What made it worse was seeing poor little Huey looking out the window longing to be outside. As soon as we saw the rain had stopped we'd hurry and take him out but that would only last for a little bit because it was only a matter of time before the rain would start up again. I didnt get any pictures of when everything started flooding but here's a couple of links explaining and showing you how bad it got. http://news.sky.com/home/article/16039550http://photos.denverpost.com/mediacenter/2011/07/photos-rains-mudslides-kill-32-cause-havoc-in-south-korea/. Thankfully we weren't affected by any of the flooding or heavy rains where we live. There was a day or two were Jeff didn't have to go into work because they had experienced some flooding. We are so very thankful that the sun has been out for the past week and a half and hope that it continues to do so. We're pretty sure that we can say monsoon season is coming to an end, maybe even ended!? Fingers crossed!!

BULGOLGI

A couple weekends ago, some of the wives from the the unit we are in all got together and went to a korean cooking class. It took close to an hour to get there from the subway. I loved the little area in which the class was because it was close to a beautiful mountain and just reminded me of a cute little town in the states. We were able to choose between either being able to cook bulgolgi which is just beef and some veggies or a spicy pork dish. I chose the bulgolgi. Bulgolgi is a very traditional dish that they make in korea. If any of yall want the recipe just let me know. It was super easy to make. It consisted of a little bit of pineapple juice, some sesame oil, and other simple stuff that most of us have lying around the house. I didnt think it was going to be that simple and easy to make it, but im sure glad it was because it was oh so yummy! It turned out perfect and tasted as if it was made by an authentic korean! I was very proud of myself! I was even complimented on my cutting/cooking skills.

steepest wooden roller coaster in the world...CHECK!!

On the 5th of July, since jeffrey had the day off, we decided that it would be a perfect day to go to Everland. Everland is one of Korea's many amusement parks.

Going on a tuesday was the best idea. Hardly anyone was there as compared to on the weekends and we didn't have to wait in super long lines for the rides. It was the perfect day. Now korea has a ton of cool stuff to see everywhere. They have many "in the world" things such as, they have the biggest indoor/outdoor water park in the world, and the biggest underground mall in the world (well asia, but it still makes the cut), and well the steepest wooden roller coaster IN THE WORLD! Haha! We've made a bucket list of all the things we want to do and since being here in korea the list has included anything "in the world" we must see or do! Well, luckily for us, everland just happened to have the steepest wooden roller coaster in the world! (Not to mention its also the 4th ranked theme park in the world!)

Now we love theme parks, but this one was a little different than any ordinary theme park. Besides the rides and all, they had a zoo area where you could see all the monkeys and all the baby wild animals, a petting zoo, camel and pony rides, a huge flower garden and safari rides!

(aren't these just the cutest things!?)

(water splash celebration with TONS of water)

We got to go on all the rides we wanted to, see all the cute little animals and fill up on candy that we overpaid for by way too much! The only thing that would have made this day better was having little huey with us. Ha. We wish we could take that pup with us everywhere we go! We talk about him soo much and we often wonder if he thinks about us as much as we think and talk about him. Probably not, but oh well haha! Although everland was fun...we've decided that we need more thrill and rush in our lives. I personally tend to get bored on the middle of a ride and think to myself, whats next. With that being said, we have many ideas brewing up in our minds as for our next thrill rushing, adrenaline adventure. Stay tuned!

***Fourth of July***

Fourth of July is probably one of the best holidays to spend in the states. Obviously because it's an American holiday but not only that. What it represents to us and being able to see everyone so  patriotic and loving their country is the best! This year, seeing as how we are in korea and the fourth was on a monday, we had an extra long weekend to celebrate! Saturday we headed over to a friends bbq with some of the people in jeffrey's company. There was lots of good food and all the fourth of july desserts! Yummy! Later that night, we headed over to yongsan to watch the fireworks and see what was going on there. The fireworks of course were awesome but since there was no wind at all it got real smoky and at times you couldn't see some of them really well. After the fireworks display we headed out to town and met up with some of our friends. We went to a small bar were we played some games of darts winning the great robby, who supposively is unbeatable (i guess not to us, sorry robby! ha!) and then called it a night. Sunday was a normal church day for us and another fourth of july bbq! Dont you just love the holidays!?  Monday, the actual forth, we woke up and went for a nice, long walk with huey down to one of our favorite (well pretty much the only one we know of) breakfast place. We didint do much on the actual holiday itself,  just chillaxed and watched some movies at home. Tuesday, since jeffrey had off, we decided was the perfect day to go to Everland! As you can see our fourth of july weekend wasn't too crazy, but we always have fun hanging out together; whether its watching movies, going to bbq's or just bumming around! We both love knowing that no matter what we will always have each other and will never get bored with our crazy, random adventures!

*HiSeOul FeStIvAl*

A couple months ago Seoul had its HiSeoul Festival going on at the Han River. It was pretty fun. They had some guys doing tricks on the big spinning wheels and then a traditional korean dance and singing, but the thing that caught our eyes was this performance they did at the very end of the show. The performers lined up in lines and they all attached themselves to a big hanger like thing and they were all hanging making a big square. You'll see in the pictures.
They then turned on the music and they all started dancing at the same time and doing all sorts of cool moves while they were being moved in the air by the hanger. It was pretty neat! At the very end of the show they moved them so they were right about the main stage and all of a sudden fireworks just start going off behind them and the music was still playing and it was just pure awesomeness. I wish i could upload videos, but for some reason it never lets me. Hopefully the pictures will do justice!
You can also see the infamous squid jerky they sell here like candy, along with the beetle butts, and some other fun stuff as well! (=

Quad A Ball*

This year jeffrey and i had our first ball to attend to. We went to the christmas formal last christmas but as we were told by many this ball was the ball of all balls. Let me start by saying that we almost didnt get to go at all, and found out the night before around 9ish that we were actually going to go! It all began when we were at a hail and farewell for jeffs unit. During the announcements they mentioned that tickets for the ball would now be available. So that night i told jeffrey that would needed to buy our tickets because they said they were only selling a 150 for his whole unit. So days go by then a week or two and i ask jeff if hed gotten the tickets and he answered no. I decided to go to the atm as soon as i could and pulled out the money and gave it to jeff to go buy the tickets the next day. So that day i asked him if he got the tickets and lo and behold they were gone! Well she told jeff that she had tickets but couldnt sell them yet because she had to make sure that there was going to be enough room at the ball. I didnt panic at first because i thought to myself, "of course there has to be room." Well days go by and  i keep on asking jeff is hes heard anything more about the tickets and nothing. By this time i already ordered a dress and it was on its way here. More days go by and i start getting nervous. I got my dress and still no word about the tickets. Well we finally got word maybe a week or so before the ball and its a for sure no that we weren't going. I was totally bummed and so was jeff. The night before the ball jeffrey and a whole bunch of other guys all had to work late because they were preparing to go to the field the following week. Everyone kept on asking jeff if we were going to the ball and he would have to keep explain the story to them which made him bummed because we both wanted to go. Well that night some of our friends heard about our situation and decided to donate us their extra tickets so that we could go to the ball! There's a little bit more to that story but thats the jist of it. Well funny thing was, that same night my friend Leah was at our house and i was practicing doing her hair for the ball tomorrow and we were talking about how we wanted to go but how funny it would be if jeff all of a sudden called and said we were going to the ball. So in the middle of doing her hair i get a phone call from jeff saying that i needed to go shopping and i was like "oh i know im going tomorrow," thinking that it was something else he needed for the field next week. He got all confused and was like, "what?", he then goes on to say how i needed to go shopping for the ball and find a dress because he got us tickets to go. Now let me remind you that the ball was tomorrow and it was probably around 9 ish or later when i got this phone call from him. I had no clue what i was going to do! I told my friend and i was so freaked out i had no clue where i was going to get a dress, especially here in korea where i had no clue where to even start! I sent back my dress i ordered because it was too big and i found out we werent going to be going so i figured that i had no use for it. I had my red dress from the christmas formal and i figured if all else failed i could just always wear that. So when jeffrey came home i asked him what to do because i needed to find a dress asap. He told me to call our korean neighbors and see if they knew of any places where i could find some dresses. Being the nice people they are they called me over that night and told me to come look at some dresses they found for me online. I found a couple real cute dresses i liked and they were nice enough to call and see if they had them available so i could go look at them tomorrow morning. So the next morning i hurried and rushed to go look at the dresses and found one i thought was perfect! Thank goodness it was the perfect size just a little too long, but the best thing about this place was that it was a rental store so i didnt even have to buy the dress. We all know you can never wear the same dress twice to a ball! I know now where i'll be going to rent my dress for the next ball. When i was ready to leave the lady told me i had to pay in cash for the dress and not with my card because it wasn't from a certain account or something like that. I then started to panic because i would have had to go to post to withdraw money go back to the store and I was just not going to have enough time for all that. Once again, my neighbors being the nicest people ever came to my rescue and payed for the dress with their card and I was free to go. Dont worry we payed them back that same night! Now the ball started at 5 and i still had to go and help my friend get ready but on top of that i now had myself to get ready as well. There was a bus that was leaving k16 at four so we were going to try and catch the bus so that we wouldnt have had to drive that night, but lets just say we missed that one. Not by much though! As soon as i finished helping my friend, i hurried and got ready myself.. Jeffrey on the other hand was ready in about 15 minutes. Boys, so easy to get ready! Especially when they have to wear the same uniform to every formal event, ha! We left the house and headed towards the ball. It was such a fun night and we were so glad that we were able to get the chance to go! The food was yummy and the company was great!
After the ball we headed down to the small bar/club called JJ's that was at the basement of the Hyatt (the hotel where the ball was held). We all had such a blast. They had a live band playing and singing but it was super entertaining. They had a live band at the ball too, but the JJ's was definitely much more fun. My friend Ana and I were also privileged to dance on stage with them, hahahahaha oh goodness, soo funny!
We had an awesome time and were super stoked that we got the chance to go. We know now for the next ball to buy our tickets as soon as they become available!
